Mar 27th / Tagged: diabetes diabetic musical / 6 notes †So I thought I was going into liver failure on Monday, then my kidneys got crazy inflamed late Monday night -> Tuesday night, and I got super sick, like that part in Bridesmaids style. So by Tuesday morning I was super dehydrated, my kidneys were externally visible in my lower back, I had a fever of 101.5, and my sugar was up by 300 even though I hadn’t eaten in 12 hours. So my doctor was like “Um so DKA or?” and so I went back in, and got IV’d, and essentially it was some kind of 24 hour bug that almost blew up my kidneys and nearly forced me into DKA. So cool.

Well, they manifest in different ways for everyone. Also keep in mind that these aren’t the signs of diabetes per se, but the symptoms of hyperglycemia, or high blood sugar, which occurs when type 1 diabetes is untreated.
Finally, I want to say that
A) I’m not a doctor, if you feel you are at risk for diabetes, tell your doctor and ask about a blood test. DO NOT buy a meter at Walgreens and attempt to diagnose yourself.
B) I was undiagnosed for somewhere around 4 months until my kidneys failed, and as a result I suffered intensified symptoms. If you have any concerns, seeing a doctor is a great idea.
For me, I was constantly:
- Incredibly thirsty.
- Out of breath.
- Super tired even after sleeping. At the same time though it was super hard to fall asleep.
- Always yawning.
- Felt like I had heartburn.
- I always felt nervous/irritable/horny. Always.
- My vision decreased drastically.
- I lost about 50 pounds, both fat and muscle, in less than 2 months.
- My cuts and bruises never seemed to heal.
- As time progressed, I became aggressive and impatient with others.
